How fast does LPG pay for itself: a real calculation

How much gas really saves on fuel, how quickly the installation pays for itself and who benefits most — with a clear example.

The main question before fitting LPG is “when will it pay off”. The answer depends on your mileage and current prices, but it is easy to work out. Let’s look at a concrete example.

Where the saving comes from

LPG costs about half as much per litre as petrol, while it is consumed only slightly more — on average 10–15% by volume. So the cost per kilometre on gas is noticeably lower than on petrol. That difference is your saving.

Example calculation

Take a typical saloon: consumption 10 L/100 km, mileage 20,000 km a year.

  • On petrol: at ~€1.77/L that is about €3,540 a year.
  • On gas: consumption slightly higher (~11 L/100 km), LPG price ~€0.98/L — about €2,150 a year.
  • Saving: ~€1,390 a year (about 39%).

With the Standart package at €1,200, the payback period works out to about 10–11 months. After that, gas simply saves your money.

Who benefits most

The more you drive, the faster the equipment pays off:

  • Taxis, delivery, courier vehicles — high mileage, LPG often pays off within six months.
  • A family car with daily trips — usually about a year.
  • A car that mostly sits in the garage — longer payback, but there is still a saving.

What affects the payback period

  • Current prices of petrol and gas — track them on the live fuel price chart.
  • Annual mileage — the main factor.
  • Engine and generation — these determine the kit price (see prices).

The most convenient way to get exact figures for your car is the savings calculator: enter your mileage and consumption and you’ll see the benefit in euros per year and the payback period. We’ll help you choose the right kit.

Frequently asked questions

With daily driving the installation usually pays off in 10–18 months. The higher the annual mileage, the faster: for taxis and delivery vehicles often within six months, for an ordinary driver covering 20,000 km a year in about a year.

LPG costs almost half the price of petrol per litre, while consumption in litres is only 10–15% higher. The result is a fuel saving of around 35–45% — meaning you save 35–45 euros out of every 100 spent on fuel.
